Open Minds has the deets on Mark Millar's UFO sighting over Glasgow. The comic book creator spotted a huge, glowing orb on New Year's Eve. He took to twitter, inquiring as to whether anyone else had seen the object.

His description sounds like a Cigar shaped craft, but you can judge for yourself by reading the full article here. It may not seem like a huge deal to some, but when someone of some reknown, takes to a social media giant like twitter, to discuss a sighting, it's pretty big to us UFOLK.

American Exceptionalism and the rise of Esoteric knowledge

It goes without saying that Americans grew out of the age old tradition of accepting gods and monsters, a long time ago. Even though our nation was founded by men who believed In a god that would bless this nation and grant it the power to redeem all other nations.

Fast forward to our age of talking cell phones and virtual worlds and the only monsters we believe in are the ones we find on cinematic screens. And yet across the globe gods and monsters still hold weight in other nations .

So where did our disbelief or refusal to accept old world beliefs come from? Do we blame it on science? It is my opinion that our American Exceptionalism is the driving force behind our reluctance to believe in the unseen.

Go to any other country, from Spain to Russia and you will see that UFOs and their existence is non debatable. In some countries monsters dwell in forests and witches curse crops.

In america, zombies rule the television screens. We refuse to believe in things that will make us seem uneducated, gullible and maybe even vulnerable.

More and more americans believe in extraterrestrial life and ghosts than previously thought and yet you'd be hard pressed to find a scholar recounting his personal face to face encounter with the hairy man on his last camping trip.

It is an American pride that makes us think that believing in such things is unamerican. Let the other countries stone people for witchcraft. We are far too civilized and far too superior to believe in witches.

Let that country advertise its fear In a monkey man on the streets because they're just not educated enough to realize how ridiculous that sounds.

Across the globe, those that adhere to traditions older than america itself are frowned upon while Here on American shores paranormal encounters continue to persist.

I am often reminded of a scene in M. Knight Shyamalan s film SIGNS, in which the eventual defeat over the aliens in various countries around the world is explained away as ancient methods.

We may embrace a certain pride that we are above such beliefs and that we are too superior to except such childish notions of ancient world long since buried in the sands of all time, but let us suppose what would happen if the monsters declared their existence.

Who would survive then? The barbarians who have clung to ancient wisdoms or the new world with its false sense of security?

There was the Marx Brothers. Lucille and Ethel. Walter Matthau and Jack Lemmon. Ren and Stimpy. And so the tradition continues every time Tim Binnall invites Loren Coleman to guest on Binnall of America. Yeah, I know what you're thinking: Isn't it Tim and Jeremy? But hear me out. Some people just bring out the best in each other. When Loren interviews with Tim, he talks about everything. When Tim interviews Loren, he asks every question you ever wanted to ask. So, sue me, but when it comes to listening to the Top of the Pops in Cryptozoology or any other realm of curious endeavors, I prefer my Loren Coleman interviews at BOA.
It's like Ramen noodles with Srirachi. Kismet.
It was all a joke.

But was it?

...MokeleMbembehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15207709056426360071noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37562931.post-42407889404874351272014-08-21T14:57:00.002-05:002014-08-21T14:57:17.795-05:00Podcast interviews worth listening to...I don't care where many people stand on the UFO enigma. I used to. But these days I find myself caring less what other people think the PHENOMENA is or isn't versus what I think it is. It has everything to do with being bombarded with people's beliefs. Sometimes no one is actually pondering the mystery so much as adding their own misguided feelings to the pot.

I'm too old and disenchanted to hear what you BELIEVE it is. What you KNOW it is. That having been said, I thoroughly enjoyed three interviews from three people who err'd on the side of fact, common sense and the just plain plausible.

The first is RICHARD DOLAN at THE GRALIEN REPORT podcast.
The 2nd is STANTON T. FRIEDMAN at THE PARACAST.
Last, but certainly not least, DON BERLINER also at THE PARACAST.

Very insightful, eye opening interviews that made the disenchanted Ufologist in me smile. Maybe this stuff isn't so bad after all.
Dolan says what we are all thinking regarding the certain 'characters' that pervade Ufological circles. I mean, everyone has their quirks and it's best not to knock them for being different. Quirky people make the world go 'round. Myself included... but as Dolan so eloquently puts it, you gotta tone it down.

We all bitch and moan about how Ufology isn't being taken serious. About how the mainstream pokes fun at Abduction scenarios and mass sightings. Everyone's just going bonkers, they say. Which is why it pays to represent the field with a certain austerity. You can't show up to a UFO conference looking like the crazy uncle who lives in the shed in the back yard.

Even if you ARE the crazy uncle who lives in the shed in the back yard.

The fact is simple, fake it till you make it. But mostly, as Dolan touches on and makes a fair example, in regards to his own good health, good health and hygiene, not to mention having a life outside of the field, is essential.

When it comes to Ufological studies, there seem to be way too many kooks in the kitchen, no matter how intelligent, no matter how enigmatic, if the mental health isn't up to par that can be a problem too.

I honestly, truly enjoyed this recording. Everything I myself considered a hinderance to our goal of seeking and finding answers to our greatest mystery is touched upon by Dolan and it is refreshing. In sum total, he is right: We do need brave, articulate people representing. Damaged people who need to look deeper into their own inner conflicts are perhaps not the best people to represent this on-going enigma.

I'm not judging. Neither is Dolan. But let's face it... the World-At-Large is!!!
Giger passes away at 74

My grandmother always said if you mixed yourself up in the macabre, it would most certainly come back to bite you in the ass. I'm sure superstitious folk will look at Giger's death (an accidental fall down the stairs) as confirmation from the dark side. But for me, it's a tragedy in the life of a man who fueled some of my best nightmares.

Giger inspired me to write darker and delve deeper. He didn't hold back when he created his art, no matter how shocking the image. Giger took whatever was in his head and put it out in the world so that it would invade your mind... linger in your head... visit your dreams.

Maybe he didn't want to be the only one exploring such taboo topics of ultraterrestrial sexploitation. In the day and age of repressed, angry people, it's nice to know someone as brilliant as Giger had the power to make us all a little uncomfortable. With ourselves.

Rest in Peace.MokeleMbembehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15207709056426360071noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37562931.post-79099460672829693452014-05-13T12:31:00.004-05:002014-05-13T12:31:49.623-05:00Loren Coleman on the PARACAST
So to believe in god is to disbelieve everything else. The lord said not to believe in other gods over him and Christians take that command seriously. And it is because of this stunted thinking that may hinder our ability to accept Extraterrestrials whether our gods are the same or not. Which is why I thoroughly enjoyed this discussion at IO9.
(and chocolate!)

Yesterday the world was aflutter with chocolate overdoses, dead rose petals scattered from bedrooms to hallways to ... places. Champagne was popped and proposals were made. Love was in the air. But that was on TV. In the real world, all the lonely people were trying to figure out just where DO they all belong.

It got me to thinking: Maybe LOVE is what's missing from the Field(s) of the Paranormal. Not so much love as a good dose of Male/Female chemistry.

For a while now, the men have dominated Ufology and even a majority of the Ghost Hunters are male. If I asked you to name your favorite Cryptozoologist, it's most likely a guy. But it doesn't have to be this way. Yes, it would be nice if the 'boys' club had room for girls, but then what would our respective fields of curiosity and awe be without Brad and Sherry Steiger or the legacy of Ed and Lorraine Warren?

You see, what Ufology and the Paranormal is missing is COUPLES!

Don't get me wrong, there's been the occasional coupling of researchers of the same sex (mostly men) who have contributed a great deal of work because a lot of this stuff takes more than one mind---more than one point of view---to figure out.

But the male and female dynamic is something different. It's the ID and the EGO. It's the Believer and the Sceptic. It's Scully and Mulder, saving the world, one day at a time in their own special way. And what would it all have amounted to if either one of them went it alone?

The thing with the Paranormal is the men have the fortitude to drop everything and search for the unknowable, while the women have the foresight to keep things in perspective, and what does that mean? It means that when one person is researching and getting answers, the other person is asking, "What can we get out of this?" And the debate ensues and it goes on and on, however long it has to, because the two people most interested in finding the answers are always together.

They don't leave each other for vacations. They don't decide to branch off into other endeavors leaving one half to find a replacement to keep the seat warm for the next podcast. Because the mystery that is the Paranormal is not something so small and contained that it can take only one mind to comprehend. There are far too many minds trying to take this thing apart and put it back together, what have we got to show for it?

What the world needs now is love, sweet love, but what Ufology/Ghost hunting/Bigfoot researching and the full spectrum of Curious Fields needs is two minds who can agree to disagree, sleep on it, wake up the next day and revisit it and always keep it fresh... while operating from the same side of the fence.

So come on guys, couple up already. Or find some one of like-minded interest and curiosity and equal parts insanity because at the end of the day you're really going to want to roll over and say, "So what do you think about this whole Paracas skulls thing?" And you know damn well you want the person on the other side of the bed to know what the hell you're talking about.

You can listen here.

Here's a brief synopsis:

We begin the conversation with Jim explaining the true meaning behind the term 'occulted' as used in the title of his new bookOur Occulted History as well as the general hypothesis behind the book. Jim goes on to talk about NASA tinkering with photos of the moon and Mars as well as the potential that a 'Planet X' may be responsible for a global warming effect throughout the universe. Additionally, Jim talks about the bizarre Bosnian pyramid, which scientists claim is merely a natural hill, and how the Smithsonian Institute has repeatedly grabbed anomalous artifacts and hidden them away from the public.

I think I was abducted last night. 'Think' is the relevant word here because honestly, I don't know what the hell happened. I think the Alien Abduction phenomena is like a notebook that's been bought with the intentions of being written in, only, there's nothing to write. I mean, what can you say about the possibility that some creatures from some other part of the universe, are coming here in spaceships, to take some people out of their beds, cars and campers, and for what? Some say experimentation. Some say... well, forget what everyone else says. At the end of the day, if this crazy shit has happened to you, the last thing you are thinking about is how someone's going to scientifically quantify it. Truth be told, I am thinking about only one thing right now and that is: HOW NOT TO GO BACK TO SLEEP! EVER AGAIN!

But again, I must stress that I am not absolutely or even remotely, certain what went down. So I can only tell you what I can remember. Or, in stranger ways, what THEY let me remember.

Yesterday was an exhaustive and unusual day for me. I usually don't leave the house at dawn, only to return at midnight. I had a full day, that I must confess, did include alcohol. So I was completely drained of all energy by the time I got home last night. I jumped in the shower. I ate the other half of my Panera grilled cheese sandwich. I downed some Smart Water and after brushing my teeth and scouring the newsfeeds on my tablet, I went to bed.

Sometime in the night I thought I heard bees.

It was a loud droning sound that went passed my window. I live on the third floor and for some weird reason my mind processed the sound so that it was familiar. Bees. Giant bees. These 'bees' went by and were gone. I rolled over and went back to sleep.

Sometime later, they came back.

Only this time I could hear the unmistakable, body numbing hum for what it was. I was suddenly paralyzed as the 'bees' got closer and as I felt myself being lifted from my mattress my head jerked to the left as something numb pricked me near the back of the ear.

The last thing I remember. Actually, the last TWO things I remember, however odd they seem now, they were plausible (to me) at the time: a) I said the 'OUR FATHER', but the second time I found that I could no longer remember the rest of the prayer, as if my mind had been wiped, and b) I do remember covering my crotch. Why? I can't even begin to give a definitive explanation, but somehow I felt like I had to keep THEM away from my crotch.

Honestly, I don't normally share much of my stranger experiences. Mostly because I can't readily explain them and also because I get tired of justifying them to other people. But today, at midday, I find myself thinking back to last night and KNOWING with a shadow of doubt so thin it could easily blow away in the wind, that something strange and unearthly happened to me last night.

Something, the likes of which hasn't happened to me in YEARS.

I don't have a better explanation. I don't have any explanation. I don't even want to know what really went down. But most of all, above all things... I don't even want to go back to sleep.Tina Senahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08253179984568356989noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37562931.post-39506543367870861232012-10-22T14:36:00.002-05:002012-10-22T14:36:52.155-05:00The Paracast talks to Linda GodfreyNOW PLAYING! I've been having some difficulty getting my work back on the web (blogs, BOA, Examiner, etc) due to the fact that I no longer own a lap top and am at the mercy of other computer owners (family, friends) but I will be back on my A-game soon.

Tina Senahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08253179984568356989noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37562931.post-59321935055489196662012-07-02T12:12:00.002-05:002012-07-02T12:14:52.976-05:00Chasing UFO's...The National Geographic Channel has a new show called CHASING UFO's which features DESTINATION TRUTH's Erin Ryder and follows "3" experts on a road trip to UFO hot spots. Two episodes in and it's become apparent to me (actually, it became apparent back when all these UFO/GHOST hunting shows became popular) that searching/hunting/investigating UFO's isn't a job for a handful of "experts".

It's a job for every interested person on this planet.

UFO's don't just show up when you want them to. Sorry Stephen Greer. And they certainly don't show up just because you have a camera crew and some tech specialists in your entourage. The one characteristic that many well documented UFO sightings have in common are "multiple witnesses".

For too long UFOLOGY has been a boys club with only certain recognizable names on the Marquee. Not to say those men haven't done a swell job of documenting the phenomena and shedding light on the subject to engage the public's awareness, but we need a new take on the quest to get answers.

Other avenues need to be explored. UFOlogy needs to go beyond tv shows and blogs and podcasts and books. It needs to become a part of the public domain. And yes, the popularity of the subject has made more people willing to explore UFOLOGY and open up about their own experiences, but still, there is this pervasive feeling that only EXPERTS are allowed to speak on the topic.

That's just bull. Anyone and everyone who's seen and documented the phenomena should have a voice. There needs to be more public awareness that goes beyond the realm of the Entertainment Industry.Tina Senahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08253179984568356989noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37562931.post-82757048261971432112012-06-11T12:44:00.002-05:002012-06-11T12:44:54.436-05:00Those Enigmatic USOs

STRANGE BEGINNINGS

On a cold night in January of 1644 an Unidentified Submerged Object was sighted. The Location was none other than my home town of Boston, Massachusetts. Some regard this as the first recorded sighting of a USO in America.

Not long after Captain John Chaddock's ship blew up in the North End, Unidentified Flying Objects were sighted entering and exiting the water. It was a time when people believed in Vampires and Ghosts and the sightings were given a paranormal explanation: Ghost Lights. The spirits of the dead sailors lost on Chaddock's ship.

But that wasn't all. Days later two UFO's were sighted coming out of the water and taking on the shape of a man. The fact that the sightings took place close to the wreckage of Chaddock's ship led the people of that time to believe spirits of the lost were trying to communicate with the living. Today we would speculate that USOs were interested in Chaddock's ship.

Since that time, and with no small thanks to Charles Berlitz, USO's have been just as or even more-so mysterious than their "all-air" cousins, the UFO's. The compelling thing about USO's that always seems to rankle my nerves is the all too UFO-like description of said objects.

Why would a disc-like object be used to traverse the oceans of Earth? But then again, I am the same person who believes if anything really did traverse several galaxies to get here, it wouldn't do it in shiny FEDERATION grade space vessels, but would instead have the intelligence to move about unnoticed in a machine resembling an asteroid, meteor or even a small moon.

So why not traverse the Earths oceans in a vessel built to resemble aquatic life? Discs in the ocean just doesn't seem logical to me. Especially if we are talking about a possible aquatic race that may have been here for thousands or even millions of years. You would think they had advanced to the stage of travelling in biological aquatic ships that at first glance would appear to the casual observer to be nothing more than a whale.

Which brings me to the legend of the NINGEN.

GIANT ALBINO MONSTERS, OH MY!

Sometime in the mid-1990's stories of a colossal, albino humanoid sea creature sighted in Japan, began circulating the web. Some grainy and some obviously fake pictures and videos made the rounds but there was never any definitive proof of such a creature.

Still, it makes you wonder. If the ningen is an actual 'thing', could it very well be what I have dubbed the 'smart' USO? That is: a sea vessel that blends in (or at least is trying to blend in) with the surrounding sea life.

I vaguely remember a USO case in which a diver spotted two large humanoids exiting a crack or crater in the ocean. They wore no breathing apparatus and they were nordic-like in appearance. I wish I could locate the story for more in-depth clues to the habits of such beings but I can't.

MYSTERIOUS SOUNDS

In 1997, the U.S. National Oceanic And Atmospheric Administration recorded a mysterious !BLOOP! The mysterious sound was detected off the coast of South America and was detected more than once. The NOAA admitted the sound resembled that of an unknown living creature.

The sound was later speculated to be Ice calving in Antarctica by a Dr. Christopher Fox, but the NOAA has since recorded five more unexplained sounds and named them!

If the Mysterious BLOOP is NOT ice calving, could it be from a living creature larger than the Blue Whale or perhaps an actual recording of a USO?

IN CONCLUSION

Ghost ships. The Bermuda Triangle. The Dragon's Triangle. Amelia Earhart. Atlantis.

The sea is full of mysteries. USO's may be responsible for all of these legends of the great, blue deep. Or none of them. For ages, navigators have reported sightings of flying dragons, strange balls of light, floating ships with missing crews, and flying discs.

USO's are a very old mystery. And yet for a mystery so old and recorded in the annals of some of the greatest men known to traverse the worlds oceans, not much, if anything is known about these mysterious objects seen entering and exiting our seas. Which brings me to this: Maybe they have discovered a way to hide in our midst. Maybe traversing our oceans in the guise of aquatic life isn't necessary because even when metallic discs break the surface and jettison out of our atmosphere, we still refuse to believe.

That is the greatest disguise of all. Living in plain sight.

I grew up with a very religious Catholic grandmother who believed that if you said, " I hope you get run over by a Tonka truck!" it would happen.

I did witness a few things that were at first nothing more than angry utterances. A cousin fell off a gate and down a flight of stairs after my grandmother told him he would. Sometimes I wondered if it wasn't her. My family, historically speaking, has been plagued by insinuations of Witch craft. Older people who are too close to the grave to care have often referred to members of my family as "witches".

Wish I could say I had a broom with the ability to zoom from here to Dunkin Donuts in under a second, but alas, I don't. So the rumours are shit. But the power of words and invocations is very real. So real in fact that I can't have a conversation about the paranormal without certain people in my circle telling me to stop before I "get it started" or "call something" or "bring it out into the open".

In other words, STIR SHIT UP.

Speaking about Sleep Paralysis invokes sleep paralysis. I learned this the hard way. And have since managed to make the subject off topic in my presence. Speaking about Alien Abduction makes strange things happen. I too have witnessed this. Which makes me wonder, is it the words that invoke or the very thought of such things?

Can you invoke the DARKNESS just by thinking too much on it?

I asked my grandmother once how come every time she said something would happen, it did. She said simply that is was already going to happen regardless. So, do we speak of these things because we feel a stirring in the air? Because we know that SOMETHING WICKED THIS WAY COMES? Or, is it the other way around? Speak of the Devil and he will hear you?

It's something I am still trying to figure out, but somehow I know it all goes back to the days when words were powerful. Powerful enough to raise land from sea, set stars in the sky and perhaps raise the dead. Or maybe like the fall of the walls of Jericho, the power isn't in the thought or the words. It's all in the sound.Tina Senahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08253179984568356989noreply@blogger.com4
